seeing twenty foot canvases with a couple of bold strokes being thought of as art, actually bought and collected ... I just don't know what to do but laugh even though it makes me want to cry.
Reinier- Don't pay attention to fads, do what you think is right, and don't sacrifice your moral standards for any price. Just be patient and good things will come. Trust me.
cry on a giant canvas then sell it to an art collector for 1 million dollars. Call it "The Fountain Of Youth, Nobody told me it would be this way" or something equally lame. You should totally pay attention to the fads and reap the benefits of those lost fuckers..... Or not....hm..forget i said that.
I could do that just to prove how ridiculous this whole thing is... but I might lose my soul in the process and besides I'm trying to be less of a hypocrite nowadays :)
there's this dude that's showing here(vancouver) that does 3m canvases painted silver, with purple spots on them, and they go for 25k. He also paints mazes on mirrors http://www.winsorgallery.com/past_exhibits.php?event=rea08&i=rea_2
Some of abstract art is a joke, but some of it is legit too. Same as figurative work.
I feel like you are rejecting that abstraction could lead to a spiritual feeling, because: you are very invested in fantastical and romantic concepts which define your relationship to the world. (Guessing from your painting) I like your work, but you should consider that many people would look at it and say this is all a fanatasy, it doesn't have anything to do with a viewer's life who isn't very close to you with how they define spiritual value. Many people would say, when looking at your work - this is someone else's fantasy about their relationship to the spiritual world.
