finito

I took this flick under a dimmer light so the colors look warmer and more saturated than in the actual piece. Not only do I look like I have a migraine in this piece but it really was a pain figuring out how to bring together all the separate elements. It took me months to figure out what the hell I was doing since I started with a completely different idea. This process is exciting but it drives me nuts because I won't have a clue where I'm going until I'm about two thirds done. My hope is that one day I'm smart and capable enough to figure out the steps in my head... (as in a chess game) and avoid unnecessary mental stress and thinking I'm better off burning a piece than finishing it. But... this is life...and I'm thankful and lucky to be able to to manifest my thoughts.

damn i messed up on that last comment.. oh well what i meant to say is THANK YOU ALL!!!!... to Derrick: those evil looking leaves are actually a leaf insect

D-Rock said...

is that a real life insect or something from your imagination?

verdadverde said...

it's completely real... they really look like leaves, and then there's the ones that look like sticks and the ones that look like your fAcE! nature has come up with some amazing camouflage.

Of course I like Leyendecker. There's actually a J.C. Leyendecer retrospective show going on right now at Cal State Fullerton. They have a ton of his pieces on display.

Current favorite is still Odd Nerdrum though. Also digging Jenny Seville.

Yo Rei. I'm sorry I haven't gotten the prints to Kent yet. I just got contacted a few weeks ago from the long beach museum of art and they want me to do some pieces for an upcoming show so I've been working like crazy. I'll get it done though, I swear.

rei, if you decide to come back, you should come back and live at the old commune. not that i haven't been urging you ever since you left. Keep submitting your work so you get discovered and then can afford to come back!

I have some breathing room. I'm going to try to get to Kent's class and talk to him for you tomorrow night. If not, I'm really going to push to get this done next week. Sorry about all the delays.

P.S. THere's a massive fire burning really close to my house. I might have to evacuate.

wow this painting is gorgeous!

ACTUALLY... We do have your old room available because our current roommate got a better job thus, must get a better house with better rooms , therefore, if a certain REINIER wants to move back, it's a very plausible thing, since me billiam and I prefer to live with someone we know & love:)

Hi Rey,
Haven't spoken to you in a while. Will told me that the best way to contact you was through your blogspot. I've been trying to call you for the past couple of weeks, but I keep getting this voicemail in Spanish. I also believe that Edgar told me you lost phone. In either case I really would like to talk to you. I'm graduating this term, and thus have started to paint again. You're definitely someone that I want to show my work to in order to get some feedback, especially because you've had Kent's class before.
But this is all besides the point. The main reason why I want to talk to you is because I haven't spoken to you in forever. There's been a lot of stuff going on in my life, and from what I've heard it seems like the same story for you. I don't know if you've been checking your emails, but either way, email me when you get the chance, I have some pretty juicy gossip that I think you'll enjoy.
ALSO, Vicky, Bill and I have all....oh wait, and Kent, and Will, and Chiu, have all been talking about why the fuck is Rey in Florida when he's supposed to be in LA selling his paintings and making a living off of them. You know you can fucking do this. Maybe not immediately, but pretty damn sooner than most other people. EIther way, I know this is all a lot of food for thought. Just email me back, preferably with some kind of landline, or mobile line that I can reach you with.

You know the reason why I'm saying this is because I care about you Rey. And I know you're capable of all this.
Email, or call me, whichever you can,

Rei! I'm serious, We (as in bill and I) are looking for a new roommate, but we don't want anyone we don't know just yet because we're going out of the country in december and we don't want to leave the house empty (although, that's precisely what I did with you when you first moved in....haha) . How about you house-sit at the commune for the month of december? all you need is a ticket to california!
